YES. You are never too old to learn to play an instrument! I have taught students all the way up into their 80's. I also enjoy teaching older students as I love a lot of the music from the early eras of popular music. I am a music history buff and I enjoy sharing this music
No. Not if you don't want to. Many successful guitarists have never learned to read music. Many of our younger beginning students do learn basic note reading skills. But it is not required.
There are other ways to learn to play music that don't involve note reading, such as tablature and chord rhythm symbols which all our students will learn how to read and play.
However some parents may wish their child to learn note reading to prepare them for playing an instrument in school band, where note reading will be 100% required. The treble clef reads the same whether you are playing guitar or clarinet or saxophone, etc... An early exposure to reading music will be an advantage.
This depends on your goals and interests. Many of my students will work from various guitar method books and song material that we select together.
Yes! This is a major goal of most students, and very much encouraged!
YES! My entire live music career was as a lead guitarist. It is what I enjoy the most about guitar and I'm thrilled to teach those interested!
